is a talk and screening of the reSource programme at transmediale 2012 by Katrien Jacobs & Warbear.
What:
Since its establishment in 1949, the People's Republic of China has upheld a nationwide ban on pornography, imposing harsh punishments on those caught purchasing, producing, or distributing materials deemed a violation of public morality. Meanwhile, an illegal porn industry, waves of DIY porn and Internet activism have emerged that are in constant counter-dialogue with armies of government-hired spies and messengers of patriotism.
Should The Chinese Communist Party open up and allow for the public expression of lust and vulgarity, or should it continually insist on its ideology of surveillance and criminalization when this has historically led to popular outrage and DIY pornography?
